Wine writers have to find a new star on the wine heaven each year … thats the logic and also the history in my view.
This can be rather problematic .. but in Burgnudy new and more or less obvious stars occur almost every year … many neglected vineyards and domaines are waiting to be taken to new stardom.
My find of 2016 so far is Heitz-Lochardet in Chassagne – not that the Domaine was neglected … the wineyards were leased away .. but luckily they are now back in the young but safe hands of Armand Heitz.
Heitz Lochardet 2014
Both the reds and the whites from Heitz-Lochardet are drinking very well … just sitting at “Les Bout de Monde” and enjoying a Chassagne La Maltoye 2013 reflecting over the impressions of the 2014s .. from Heitz-Lochardet.
After tasting the 2014s from Armand Heitz I see a bright talent .. (only the second vintage) and yet both the reds and the whites are showing beautifully … the reds (especially the Pommard Rugiens) is showing qualities that most other producers at the Diva tasting today have ever produced. The Meursault Perrieres is also top end .. really impressive.
Heitz-Lochardet is currently making the following wines (2014)-vintage:
- Bourgogne Chardonnay
- Meursault
- Chassagne Montrachet, La Maltroye
- Chevalier-Montrachet
- Pommard Clos des Poutures – monopole
- Pommard Les Perriéres
- Pommard Les Rugiens
From the 2015 vintage additional two wines – Pommard Les Pezerolles, and Pommard Les Taillpieds.
In my view Armand Heitz is a natural talent – just as Maxime Noëllat in Vosne-Romanee. And its not a coincidence that I mention Armand Heitz in contect with Maxime … this is true talent … one rarely see. So look out for these wines … they come highly recommended.
Tasting notes will follow … cheers!
