The Krug Grande Cuvee is a quite legendary Champagne. When I had this cuvee first time 20 years back it was quite mature on release. This has changed and now it taste more like a light version of the Krug Vintage. In the bouquet apple, hazelnuts, yeast, white bread with notes of citrus. On the palate powerfull and fresh – very vinous for champagne. It’s quite full-bodied but also tight with a strong framework of vibrant acidity. Compared with the Krug Vintage it lacks some depth and nuances in the fruit, and the complexity is not on the same level. It’s fresher and more vibrant than the Vintage 1998, but resembles the style of the Vintage 2000 – but with less focus, depth and complexity. A fine effort from Krug and better than expected. Would keep it in the cellar for 4 to 10 years to get a more matured expression.
