The estate, or if you like, the Vignerons Vins Saisons has existed since 2019, with a change of management during this period.
The project was started out by Eric Pignal and Loïc Lamy with the 2019 vintage as, what one could call, a hobby production.
Eric then got a new job as chief winemaker at Simon Bize, and this left Loïc to carry the baton and continue. On the side, he and his wife, Milena Berman, run the Hautes Côtes, an event company that creates and runs fine cultural events in Burgundy.
This is a small estate. In 2023, there were only 3000 bottles … not much for the world market.
The wines in the 2023 vintage
As mentioned, I tasted Saisons first wines in the 2019 vintage … and I had tasted the occasional bottle from time to time, but not a clear picture since 2020.
So, I have decided to give Saisons a fresh review in the 2023 vintage … Let’s go! The wines below were tasted on August 13th 2024.
Vins Saisons Haute Côte de Beaune 2023
The Haute Côtes de Beaune vineyard is above Pernand-Vergelesses (480 m). No new oak, 100% whole cluster. It has a beautiful strawberry note … good intensity for this level and has a lovely acidity. A lovely wine with good hedonistic energy.
(Drink from 2026) – Very Good – (87-88p) –
Vins Saisons Savigny-lès-Beaune 2023
The Savigny-lès-Beaune is from the vineyard Dessus les Vermots located in the upper part of the appellation – up the valley toward the Côte. Elevage is done in both normal barrels and 350L – quite a difference between these. The 229L is fruit-forward with lovely red berries … while the mineral note is stronger in the 350L. A mix gives the wine more structure and mineral display … a lovely Savigny-lès-Beaune.
(Drink from 2028) – Very Good – (89-90p) –
Vins Saisons Aligoté 2023
The Aligoté from Macon is quite elegant and expressive – quite delicate. Not very much reduction and the fruit is on the generous side – the wine has a lovely transparency. Has a lovely expression of terroir …. not bad, although it needs to focus. Let’s see!
(Drink from 2025) – Good – (87p)
