On Tuesday March 16 I discovered two new Vosne-Romanée estates! Both started up with the 2019 vintage, and both originate from older Vosne families.
Each estate starts out with a very nice portfolio of vineyards and can eventually – if all parcels are taken back from metayage (share-cropping) agreements – have a beautiful selection of appellations.
The first is Domaine Boigey Freres, a new estate located in the core of Vosne. Two brothers are running this estate with vineyards that will gradually be taken back from metayage.
In 2019 and 2020 the brothers prduced three wines: a Bourgogne Rouges, a Vosne-Romanée Les Jachees and a Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru. But a large plot of Les Suchots and a smaller one in Echezeaux are waiting! My tasting report is under preparation, as I have already visited Domaine Boigey.
The second is Domaine Benoit Chevallier, who has taken over the vineyards from his father’s family. His father, Maurice Chevallier, was previously the mayor of Vosne-Romanée.
I will return with more data on the Benoit Chevallier estate when I have talked to him.
