June 2018 – First time at Domaine Felettig in Chambolle-Musigny just at the entrance to the village, an exciting tasting.
The Felettig estate is owned by Gilbert and Christine Felettig – brother and sister – the estate is 12.5 ha and include almost 100 plots scattered all over the northen part of Burgundy.
They do make many wines – so lets take a closer look.
Gilbert Felettig – a competent vigneron
Tasting a few of the 2016 and the range of 2017s from Felettig did to be honest make my head spin a bit. The 2016s were due to the frost showing signs of low yields and high quality, although they also showed some of the stress of the vintage – as the very low yields (low number of barrels) did make it a challenge in some cases.
The 2017s are more amble in yield, and it’s easier to find the right dose of new oak – with more casks to play. This is surely an advantage, and show that while the 2016s is a fine vintage, it was not always easy to make the wines to perfection – due to the fact that quantities were very limited. Make no mistake though, the 2016s are also very fine at Felettig.
Tasting the 2017 from Domaine Feletting
Tasting the 2017s from cask was a bit of a challenge for me, as some of the wines were in the middle of the malolactic fermentation. So the comments given are for the wines I found ready to taste – for me that is! ..
Domaine Felettig, Nuits-Saint-Georges “Les Terre Blanches” 2017
The Terre Blanches is from the northern part of Premeaux – at the very top of the hill. The white wine produced there is coming from sourced grapes … and is a delightful glass. Lovely fresh fruit – saline and vivid with a lovely structure. Slightly on the generous side perhaps ..
(Drink 2024) – Fine (90 – 91) – Tasted 05/06/2018

Domaine Felettig, Vosne-Romanee 2017
The Vosne-Romanée comes from two plots located in Les Chalendins and Aux Jachées. A lot of depth in this wine – lovely fruit, vivacious and deep. Classic Vosne and 2017 with a lovely drinkability and finesse – a lovely village.

Domaine Felettig, Chambolle-Musigny Lavrotte 2017
Lavrotte is from below the road running underneath Les Fuees and Bonnes Mares. A pure and vivid wine – elegant and rather lightfooted for such a terroir. A very delicate and forward wine .. classic 2017 with a forward fruit.
(Drink 2027) – Very Good (88 – 89) – Tasted 05/06/2018

Domaine Felettig, Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees 2017
The Chambolle-Fuees is quite intense for the vintage – lovely fresh red and dark fruits. Always a treat to taste a large lineup of the Chambolle 1er crus. A bit closed currently but have a lovely potential.
(Drink 2028) – Very Good+ (90 – 91) – Tasted 05/06/2018

Domaine Felettig, Chambolle-Musigny Feusselottes 2017
The Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes is rater reduced but underneath the fresh 2017 fruit is brimming. A elegant wine no doubt – love Feusselottes – with it’s viviv fruit and fine mineral note.
(Drink 2028) – Fine (91 – 92) – Tasted 05/06/2018

Domaine Felettig, Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 2017
A classic Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes – elegant and rather discrete – lovely flowery nose with a deep vivacious fruit. Very delicate – lovely potential in this wine. A delightful wine in the making.

Domaine Felettig, Vosne-Romanée 1. Cru 2017
The Vosne-Romanée is a blend between Petits Monts and Les Chaumes. A small cuvée with only 750 bottles produced. This is a treat – deep fruit for the vintage – spicy fruit with violets, hints of peony rose. The Chaumes is apparently near the plot of Maxime Cheurlin.
(Drink 2028) – Fine (91 – 92) – Tasted 05/06/2018

Domaine Felettig, Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 2017
The next stop is the Aux Reignots – most certainly a wine to look for. It’s deep and spicy – with a quite deep mineral note – the Fellettig plot is located in the lower end of the vineyard. Intense, charming and with a lovely mineral energy – I really enjoy this wine.
(Drink 2030) – Very Fine (93 – 94) – Tasted 05/06/2018

Domaine Felettig, Echezeaux 2017
The Echezeaux is a treat – coming from Les Treux and is made in one 500 liter barrel. A vivacious and energetic wine, and a hard match for the Aux Reignots. It’s multi layered and with plenty of fruit, and typical 2017s – fresh and forward. In the end it will presumably surpass the Aux Reignots …

The wines of Felettig …
First and foremost I feel very intrigued by the Felettig wines – as they are both very honest and straightforward …. what you see is what you get.
I really enjoyed the 2017 tasted – but they are not necessarily easy to taste in the beginning, they do need patience and time in the glass to unfold.
The Vosne wines seem more forward than the Chambolle wines. So they get a lot of credit – the Aux Reignots especially is a gorgeous wine. The Echezeaux likewise – a treat.
The Chambolle wines are very typical for the terroris – and that is indeed rare to see so many lovely Chambolle 1er crus in a lineup.
Bottom line … Feletting is a very interesting visit, and it’s not my last visit at this estate – if possible.
