Last year, Domaine Dujac held a series of larger tastings during which journalists had the opportunity to taste the 2022s.
This is a new format that works well for my journalistic side, but it nevertheless takes some of the romance and poetry out of the tasting experience.
As a side note: I have followed Dujac’s wines since the early 1990s, and have tasted many that are even older; including a delightful 1976 Clos Saint-Denis that is a benchmark for hot vintages. So, Dujac for me is like a home away from home. One can always find comfort in a Dujac wine. It’s a safe haven, so to speak.
The quality level of the ’23 wines is high at Domaine Dujac, but perhaps not quite reaching the level of the 2022s at Dujac.
And lets be honest, there is no clear line. 2023s are better than the 2022s in some places like Cecilé Tremblay, whereas the 2022s are better in other places like Dujac.
Enough talk. Let’s taste!
Wines were tasted at the domaine on October 17th, 2024.
Domaine Dujac Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 2023
The Puligny Folatières are from relatively young vines. The 2023 has a tremendous freshness and a slight reduction, but very forward and agreeable. Very fine fresh fruit … delightful and generous. Lacks a bit of the depth of the Combottes, but with the freshness, we do have a very fine wine.
(Drink from 2032) – Very Good (90-91p) –
Domaine Dujac Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 2023
The Puligny Les Combettes are made from older wines. It’s deep and with a weighty mid-palate. It has a lovely generosity and is very expressive and vivid. Slightly reduced, very well made. A truly delicate Puligny character. Very Charming.
(Drink from 2032) – Very Good (92-93p) –
Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis Mont-Luisants 2023
The Morey Mont-Luisants is from the 1er Cru lieu-dit above the Grand Cru (also named Mont-Luisants, and part of Clos de la Roche). This year also slightly reduced … lovely structure and profile, very fine crystal clear fruit. A lovely glass!
(Drink from 2036) – Very Good (90p)
Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny 2023
This is the domaine version of Chambolle Village. The négociant version is almost at the end of the line, as the economy of making négoce wines at Dujac is becoming increasingly doubtful. It is a lovely village—textbook—but currently, I prefer the Morey.
(Drink from 2032) – Very Good (89-90p) –
Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis 2023
This is a textbook Morey. Lovely fruit and intensity. Has a lovely hedonistic note … quite generous … a treat and a good match for the Chambolle. These wines deliver year after year.
(Drink from 2032) – Very Good (89-90p) –
Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis 1er cru 2023
This is a textbook Morey. Lovely fruit and intensity. It’s bigger and more vivid than the Morey Village. Has a truly lovely hedonistic note. It is quite generous … a treat and a classic Morey-Saint-Denis joy.
(Drink from 2032) – Very Good (89-90p) –
Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers 2023
The Gruenchers is a rare bird in the Dujac cellar. It’s elegant and floral with quite a deep fruit note. Always been one of my favorite wines from Dujac … what a treat. Always have such a delicate fruit and intensity.
(Drink from 2034) – Fine+ (90-91p) –
