Close to Clos des Lambrays … Clos des Rosiers – Monopole

There is a lot of focus on Clos des Lambrays these days – after the LVMH deal. The price for Domaine des Lambrays seem to have been around 100 million EUR … and if one can trust the medias then Taupenot-Merme is quite reluctant to sell the 0.04 ha plot they have in Clos des Lambrays – to complete the LVMH monopole on Clos des Lambrays.

As my previous article showed there are also additional plots that perhaps could be considered a part of Clos des Lambrays – see the article. I think its safe to say … we will here more about the Taupenot-Merme plot and the other plots.

There are however also other special plots located on the boarder of Clos des Lambrays … and one of them is the unknown Clos des Rosiers – owned by Domaine Chantal Remy – formerly known as Domaine Louis Remy.

Clos des Rosiers – Monopole

In Morey-Saint-Denis they have a 1er cru called called Le Village. A part of this vineyard was for many years used for a rose garden and tennis court at Domaine Louis Remy.

The former rose garden is located just below Clos des Lambrays … and just north of the Taupenot-Merme plot on this vineyard – see the map below.

In 2000 Domaine Remy decided to replant the rose garden with wines … thus making a small vineyard just outside the Clos des Lambrays – only separate by the garden wall. In 2012 the vineyard was expanded with the area without vines in the top/northern part of the vineyard (see map) – this area was previously used for a tennis court.

From this small vineyards – approximately 0.25 ha – Domaine Remy only make a few casks of this unknown Morey-Saint-Denis with the rather obvious name – Clos des Rosieres – monopole.

According to my sources Domaine Remy will try to have the vineyard classified as a 1er cru … as it once was when it was a part of Le Village. The vines are however still very young and … they will most likely have to wait some years before they will be able to apply for 1er cru status.

The location of the vineyard is however very fine … and just on the boarder to Clos des Lambrays … so why not. Will return with a tasting note on this wine soon.

There are indeed many special terroirs in Burgundy!
