Clos St. Marc ….. is a monopole in Nuits-Saint-Georges, or should I rather say Premeaux. The vineyard is now owned by Domaine Michéle et Patrice Rion … a very fine but also in my view a somewhat overlooked producer.
It’s a very interesting terroir – located in the hearth of Premeaux .. so let’s go to the southern end of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Nuits-Saints-Georges Clos St. Marc – the vineyard
Clos St. Marc is a 1er cru located just south of Clos des Corvées Pagets and below Les Argilieres in the center of Premeaux – see map below.
The three parts of the original Aux Corvées on the map are Clos St. Marc (1)
Clos des Corvées Pagets (2) and last but not least Clos des Corvées (3).
Clos St. Marc is only 0.93 ha, and is a climate that is quite different from the surrounding Les Argilieres – as the soil is quite a lot deeper – which translates into a richer and more weighty wine – at least when directly compared to the Les Argilieres from Domaine Michéle and Patrice Rion.
The history of Clos St. Marc
The history of Clos St. Marc dates back to the mid 19th century, as the vineyard seems to have been a part of Aux Corvees in 1827 when the first cadastre was made – see photo below.
