A slightly strange year for me, as the autumn sort of was delayed a bit due to a minor set back.
Now back in the game with a quick tasting of some Morey-Coffinet 2017 – seriously delightful wines – forward and vivid.
I very happy to see the 2017s perform like this – just out of the bottle – remenbering the wines were bottled in late August – so very recently.
Please note that only the lesser of the Morey-Coffinet 2017s are bottled currently.
The 2017s just now
The 2017s are simply delighful, forward and fruity. They are detailed, mineralic and focused – showing very well indeed – and to be honest and surprisingly best in the big Riedel Burgundy cups – (Sommelier).
Lovely fruit in the wines – showing both fine complexity and a surprising depth considering the level of the wines ….
I know .. 2017s is not a giant vintage, but it does show a lovely balance after the two big vintages – 2015 and 2016. The 2017 rock my boat with this clear and pure minerality and fruit.
The wines –
I had the opportunity to taste 5 of the Morey-Coffinet 2017s brough here by the Danish Importer Tavs Ritzau.
As you might know I’m very intrigued and quite infatuated by the wines from Morey-Coffinet – so I enjoy each chance I get to taste these lovely wines.

Domaine Morey-Coffinet, Bourgogne Blanc 2017
Very open and accesible – ripe and with a touch of yellow, and a slightly smoked minerality. The ripepeness is certaily there in the 2017s – yet it’s transparent and vivid. Has a lovely density for this level – drinking very well indeed.
(Drink From 2019) – Good – (84 – 85p) – tasted 17/09/2018

Domaine Morey-Coffinet, Saint-Romain Sous le Château 2017
The Saint-Romain Sous le Château 2017 is showing beautifully – and in the big Riedels it’s vivid and very vibrant with a lovely mineral note. In the Zalto stems more Saint-Romaine sweetness .. still lovely mineral transparensy. The bouquet in the Riedels is dazzling.
(Drink From 2023) – Good++ – (86 – 87p) – tasted 17/09/2018

Domaine Morey-Coffinet, Meursault V.V. 2017
The Meursault V.V. is showing all it’s goods .. generous, ripe and vivacious. Lovely sweet fruit – both in the Zaltos and in the Riedels, yet presumably more airyness and detail tasted from the Riedels. A rather classic Meursault – slightly on the generous side.
(Drink From 2024) – Very Good – (88 – 89p) – tasted 17/09/2018

Domaine Morey-Coffinet, Chassagne-Montrachet 2017
The Chassagne-Montrachet is a classic, mineral driven, very transparent in both glasses. Lovely pure fruit – showing lovely purity and is cool and mineral driven. Tremendous Chassagne-Montrachet village – not many producers reach this level.
(Drink From 2024) – Very Good – (89 – 90p) – tasted 17/09/2018

Domaine Morey-Coffinet, Bourgogne Rouge 2017
The Bourgogne Rouge is vivid, transparent and very vibrant. The bouquet is brimming with cherries and cherry stones – very forward and mineral driven. On the palate lightfooted and elegant – with a lovely symphony of cherries. What a treat!
(Drink From 2019) – Good – (85 – 86p) – tasted 17/09/2018
