The Berthaut-Gerbet estate is today a large and very exiting producer, covering the vineyards of the former parental estates Domaine Denis Berthaut and Domaine Gerbet.
There is however an additional part adding a few vineyards en fermage/en métayage to the Berthaut-Gerbet estate – and this is of cause the Mercier family, the owner of Domaine des Chézeaux in Gevrey-Chambertin.
One is the both rare and exciting vineyard Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers producing two barrels in a normal year – the two others are Lavaut St. Jacques (even more rare) and the village wine Clos des Chezeaux
… these are very good wines – so lets take a quick and closer look at Les Cazetiers.
Wine and people
Amélie Berthaut began with the 2013 vintage when she took over the Berthaut vineyards and from 2015 the Gerbet estate was officially merged into the new Berthaut-Gerbet estate – thus maintaining both the family names.
The Gevrey part of the Berthaut-Gerbet estate is however a bit special, as these are rented vineyards with a long history with the Berthaut family.
Guy Berthaut, Amélie’s grandfather, who was born in 1912 and he took over the family domaine in 1930. He started bottling at the domaine right after WWII and entered into leases of some of the vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin. Some of these belong to the Mercier family, the current owner of the Domaine des Chezeaux.
Amélie took over the Les Cazetiers in 2013 when she began to run the Berthaut estate. Les Cazetiers was furthermore in 2015 included in the Berthaut-Gerbet estate when Amelie merged the Berthaut and Gerbet labels.
