In the coming weeks, I will have the pleasure of participating in and reporting from the harvest at Domaine Garcia in Nuits-Saint-Georges (formerly Moron-Garcia). I will, time permitting, produce a daily update.
Harvest at this estate is different from most of the rest of Burgundy, as the time-consuming baie-par-baie (hand-destemmed) vinification is one its of main techniques.
Day 1
September 17
A fine result after hard work
The first day was all about picking grapes; the processing will begin later. First stop: the Ladoix-Serrigny side of the Corton vineyard; more precisely, the area where Maréchaudes turns from 1er to grand cru. Corton from Aloxe-Corton.
There were two rather difficult plots to harvest, but the grapes looked good, with little to no problems; very good quality for 2021.

The beautiful vineyard of a friend
The next stop was the Nuits-Saint-Georges plot of a friend. This is a plot of excellent quality, farmed by one of Nuits’ best viticultural talents. Beautiful grapes that produce airy wines, it was a treat to have such fruit. We will start the baie-par-baie process for 2021 with these bunches.
