The 2023 harvest in just about ready to kick off – and the plot is thickening.
I expect it to get underway next week, perhaps as soon as Monday or Tuesday, depending on the amount of rain that fell yesterday (Friday Aug. 25).
Initially it will mainly be whites, with even the big names starting before the end of August. There are, however, also reds on the way, as some grapes had this (hot!) week already reached 12% potential alcohol. That means it’s not far to go once the sun shows its beautiful face again.
There’s quite a bit of variation in ripeness levels, and on the Corton hill the reds are currently further along than the whites; some there will harvest pinot before chardonnay.
