The Chambolle-Musigny 2004 from Leroy is not your everyday Village. This village wine comes from the Chambolle vineyards Musigny, Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes, and Chambolle-Musigny Fremières the two first declassified to village level, and blended with Fremières. I have tasted the Vosne-Romanée 2004 (made from the Vosne vineyards) and knew what to expect. These are very organic and expressive wines – seems like the sulphor level is quite low – the bouquet is brimming with red fruit and is spiced with cinnamon and all spice that integrates well with the Chambolle minerality. On the palate medium bodied – airy yet intense – with a fine organic intensity. It’s a expressive wine, and is in my view at it’s peak now … a bit lighter that the Vosne-Romanée but drinking tremendously well.

- Terroir Insight: Domaine Leroy Corton-CharlemagneBeyond elusive … not even in my dreams. The red grands crus of Domaine Leroy and Domaine d’Auvenay are both very rare and very costly, but the whites are even further away from the snout of the Winehog.
