The Vosne Romanee 2004 from Leroy is not your everyday Vosne Village. This village wine comes from the Vosne vineyards Romanee Saint Vivant, Richebourg, Les Beaux Monts, Aux Brulees and Genevrieres. The result is a very good wine for the vintage. In the nose it’s oozing with Vosne spicyness, red fruits – strawberries and some notes of raspberries. On the palate it’s rich, subtle and with quite “fat” fruit for a 2004. The bouquet is dominated by red fruits – organic style. While the fruit is very good, the wine is not 100% focused and the terroir is somewhat undefined … as one would expect when mixing 5 different terroirs. Not quite as good as the exsample I had three month earlier – due to a very slight musty note in the finish. Still fresh, but don’t think it will improve with further cellaring.
