The Santa Cruz Chardonnay 1998 from Ridge was mature and dark gold. In the nose some very mature notes with apple, cheese and a hint of rubber. On the palate rich, fat but also with some acidity to balance the wine. At first a slight oxidation, but after some time in the glass it’s gone. A big mature chardonnay, on the fat and heavy side, but still enjoyable. In my view now in slight decline, and was perhaps better a few years ago.
