For those who like forward, charming and elegant Burgundies – the 2017s represents a return to the more classic styled Burgundies, after the intense and low yield 2016s, and the mighty and concentrated 2015s. Add to this the very intense and powerful 2018s ..
… those could be the words
No doubt there is quite a difference between these vintages, and in a sense the 2017 vintage is more like a old school Burgundy vintage – before the global warming took over.
I have sampled more 2017s and yes the quality of the 2017s do show some variation, but still a lot of charming wines from this vintage.
To be honest a lot of the variation found in the 2017 vintage can actually be tracked back to effects of the frost in 2016 … so important to recall the frost effects in 2016.
Bottom line – The 2017 vintage is a pleasant “surprise”, both the reds and the whites are often very pretty, drinkable and enjoyable wines – this represents a return to the more classic styled Burgundies, after the intense and low yield 2016s, and the mighty and concentrated 2015s. Add to this the very intense and powerful 2018s ..
It’s still quite early but first wines are now being bottled – so time to take another view at the vintage .
