I have completed 90% of my tastings of the 2024 vintage, and feel on quite safe grounds … if this is possible in this vintage.
The positive first… the whites are very good considering the conditions … and are definitely a vintage for drinking and even cellaring. If they are pure, they have the coolness … rare in these days and years.
The reds are a mixed bag … with some good and even attractive wines. Surely they will end up in restaurants … and they can pose a good value if priced well. The issue is, however, that for cellaring, I don’t think so.
This is a very problematic year … and all permitted tricks and trickeries have been used to save the vintage. You can put lipstick on a pig …
It is an impressive effort… top marks for this … but for cellaring the reds? I don’t see the point. Drinking … surely … and in restaurants … yes but what are the alternatives?
This is a nice light vintage that can supply good drinking – we also need those. And 2025 is a great vintage it seems.
Sorry, this how my cookie crumbles.
