Vintage Chart – Red Burgundy

As I taste wines and make tasting notes I also update the vintage charts and vintage reports. The vintage reports cover recent vintages, as they develop towards maturity. The vintage reports are based on all my experience with the vintage in question, and not only the bottles mentioned in the tasting notes here on this site.

As with all vintage charts .. this represents the vintage on average – and the maturity of the individual wines will depend on both producer, the terroir and level + the vintage. For a detailed explanation of the vintage chart – check the bottom of this page.

Explanations to the vintage chart:

Rating: Rating of the quality – Winehog Scale
Maturity: Young, Matured, Mature, Fully Mature, in decline.
Keep: Should the wine be cellared or consumed.
Taste: Could the wine be expected to bring pleasure if tasted now.
Drink: Can the wine be consumed now with pleasure.
Recommended: Is the vintage recommendable for purchase now.

The Winehog Rating Scale

I don’t really like points .. as they indicate a precise quality level for a product where bottle variation and other factors can and will give some differences in the perceived quality. I have therefore choosen my own scale with some – in my view – meaningful intervals.

  • – Legendary (99 – 100 pts)
  • – Extraordinary (97 – 98)
  • – Outstanding (95 – 96)
  • – Very Fine (93 – 94)
  • – Fine (91- 92)
  • – Very Good (88 – 90)
  • – Good (85 – 87)
  • – Above Average (80 – 84)
  • – Average (75 – 79)
  • – Below Average(70 – 74)
  • – Poor (50 – 69)
