The Winehog has a long history with Domaine Dujac. I first visited the estate some 20 years ago to taste the magnificent 1999s – a beautiful memory – and those wines continue to show their beauty.
I have followed the Dujac wines since the early 1990s, and have tasted many even older, including a delightful 1976 Clos Saint-Denis that is a benchmark for hot vintages.
Due to the pandemic I didn’t have the opportunity to taste the 2019s from cask, so I was more than pleased when Jeremy Seysses offered to show me some of them in bottle – a treat indeed.
Tasting Notes – Domaine Dujac 2019s
The Dujac 2019s are now all bottled, and we tasted a nice selection of reds and two whites from Puligny-Montrachet.
Dujac has found a lovely, cool balance in its 2019s, meaning that the ripeness is well-judged, and all the wines have a refined, elegant expression.
But enough talk: Let’s taste!
Domaine Dujac Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres 2019
The Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres is from young vines, and this shows when compared with the Combettes below. This is a bit unusual, as Folatieres is in fact a lively and vivid wine on its own. This version has some Scandinavian berries -cloudberries – and a sweet orange note, with good freshness. Not a monumental wine, but nice.
(Drink from 2027) – Very Good (90-91p) – Tasted 29/06/2021 –
Domaine Dujac Puligny-Montrachet Les Combottes 2019
Les Combettes is clearly a more substantial wine, with a more classical Puligny note. It is intense, vivid, and fresh, with gorgeous depth and refinement. Not as exotic as the Folatieres, it shows apricot and tangerine notes woven into the mineral backbone. The vines are more than 50 years old, and it shows!
(Drink from 2030) – Very Fine (92-93p) – Tasted 29/06/2021 –
Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis 2019
Next was the Domaine Dujac Morey village (we’re not tasting the negociant efforts this time). This is a vivacious wine; energetic, with beautiful acidity and freshness. It shows red and dark fruit, and the typical 2019 tension. Lovely salinity.
(Drink from 2028) – Very Good (90-91p) – Tasted 29/06/2021 –
