The Musigny from Jacques Prieur is pretty special … as it’s produced on the vineyard Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau.
Domaine Jacques Prieur has twice managed to get plots in La Combe d’Orveau promoted to Grand Crus status and included in the Mighty Musigny vineyard.
It’s perhaps not one of the best Musigny produced .. but the history of the vineyard holdings is nevertheless quite intriguing. So lets take a terroir walkabout!

The Jacques Prieur is produced from one cadastre plot within the Combe d’Orveau section of the Musigny vineyard. The total area of Prieurs holdings in Musigny is 0.7660 ha making them the third largest owner on this mighty grand cru.
Musigny – the three sections
The Musigny vineyard has three sections … Les Musigny or Grands Musigny – the main and northern part of the vineyard. Les Petits Musigny – just south of Les Musigny – a monopole owned by Vogue. Lastly we have the extension of the vineyard with a plot in the climate La Combe d’Orveau (added to Musigny in 1929 and 1989) – see map below.
The Jacques Prieur plots on Musigny
Jacques Prieur own one large Cadastre plot in the Combe d’Orveaux section of Musigny. The plot (#15) is 0.7660 ha, and Prieur is the only owner of Musigny in this section.
