The mighty Richebourg from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti is one of the top wines of Burgundy allthough it’s only number four or five in the impressive DRC lineup.
While both Romanee Saint-Vivant and La Tâche have entered the DRC holdings within the last century, the DRC holdings in Richebourg dates even longer back in the Burgundian history.
The holdings in Richebourg are large and quite diverse with plots in both the southern and northern end of the terroir – with some of the plots going from the bottom of the vineyard to the very top of Les Richebourg.
Lets take a closer look at the terroirs included in the Domain de la Romanee-Conti Richebourg.
Richebourg – one vineyard two climates
It’s somewhat unclear when the name Richebourg was first used, but documents show that the term Richebourg was used as early as 1512 according to Jean-François Bazin.
Richebourg today includes two climats – Les Richebourg 5.05 ha (the original part) and Les Verroilles ou Richebourg 2.98 ha – in total 8.03 ha. – see map below.
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti own plots in both of the Richebourg climates.
