Second round of visits October 2017

The October trip is a shorter stop before the main round of tastings in start November 2017.

Here are more new estates + also some well known adresses I have visited with great pleasure during the last few years.

Domaine Arnaud Tessier

First out here is Domaine Arnaud Tessier in Meursault – one of my favorite producers in the appellation. The 2016s from Tessier are very refined and balanced – and even better expected – tremendous wines

Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat – hitting the high notes

Charles Van Canneyet has improved the quality significantly over the last years – and the 2016s here are very fine indeed.

As with other estates I’m very impressed by the Clos de Vougeot in the 2016 vintage – focused by the energetic acidity of the vintage and very vivid for the appellation.

The 2016s from Domaine Grivot show very well and the Clos de Vougeot is also one of the most exiting wines in this vintage.

I had the opportunity to taste the 2016 Clos de Vougeot against the excellent 2015 Clos de Vougeot – and I must say it is a close call – with the 2016 as a close favourite for me.

First time at this tremendous estate. The 2016s are outstanding here and I’m really looking forwarad to praise these wines – they are that good!

A lovely first visit at this beautiful estate – in my view one of the very top producers in Gevrey-Chambertin.

Domaine Heitz-Lochardet

Always great to meet Armand Heitz – the reds 2016s are focused offering a lovely intensity. The whites offer fine balance and energy – confirming that the 2016 whites are shaping up beautifully after shedding the richer youthful fruit during the elevage.

The 2016s are already bottled at Domaine Heitz-Lochardet.

Domaine David Moreau

David Moreau has become known for his very elegant Santenays – and I was therefore very pleased to have the opportunity to visit David.

The wines are made with a light hand – both elegant and refined wines from this estate – promoting the Santenay appellation in the best possible way. Get some!

Domaine Thomas Bouley

A great visit at Domaine Thomas Bouley in Volnay. Thomas has done very well in the 2016 vintage dispite tough times due to the April frost.

Great talk with Thomas – very interesting and got a bit carried away, so forgot to take a photo of Thomas. Only got the photo of the estate I took on my way back to the car to remind me of another fine day in Burgundy.

The “secret” producer – Bernard Zito

Bernard Zito has worked as a consultant helping other vignerons implementing organic and biodynamic viticulture since 2005, Before this he worked as Chef de Culture at the Boisset group – also working with organic and biodynamic projects.

He is however also making some very fine and interesting wines – first vintage was 2010 and the 2015s and the 2016s are of very high quality – chapeau Bernard – these are delightful wines.

Last and not least Domaine Faiveley

Great to taste the 2016s from Faiveley in the newly renovated cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Erwan Faiveley seem very happy with the 2016s and with good reason – both the reds and the whites showed very well indeed – with some true gems in the huge lineup of wines.
