The 2016 vintage appear to be a great year for Clos de Vogeout, as the frost and the low yields have given some intense wines from this mighty grand cru. The fresh and vibrant acidity of the vintage have furthermore given the Clos de Vougeots a lovely balance and freshness – that makes this a very interesting vintage for the appellation.
I was therefore very eager to taste the Clos de Vougots from Domaine Chateau de la Tour, and luckily François Labet generously offered a tasting of both the 2015s and 2016 Clos de Vougeots from the estate + a tasting of the the lovely wines from the Pierre Labet estate – notes for these wines will follow shortly.
Chateau de la Tour
Chateau de la Tour is the largest owner of Clos de Vougeot with large holdings in the center of this enormous Grand Cru.
François Labet makes three cuvées of Clos de Vougeot – the Cuvée Classique and the Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, and in recent vintages a top wine Cuvée Clos de Vougeot Hommage a Jean Morin has topped the program in the best vintages.
