Comte Louis-Michel Liger-Belair of Chateau de Vosne-Romanée has just entered an agreement with Le Chateau du Clos de la Commaraine to help them making the wine from their 3.75 ha large monopole vineyard in Pommard.
Clos de la Commaraine is a Pommard 1er cru located just outside the center of the village of Pommard – to the north.
It´s an exiting new development after Harvard professor Denise Dupré and Mark Nunnelly, ex-managing director of the Boston-based Bain Capital investment fund, took over the Clos de la Commaraine estate in 2017.
The wine has been made by Maison Louis Jadot until the 2017 vintage, and it was previosly made by Domaine Jaboulet-Vercherre, who was the long time owner of this fine estate.
It’s a beautiful monopole that already was highly regarded by Lavalle and classified as a Première Cuvée in the famous 1855 classification.
Interestingly the vineyard and the estate has an historic American link, as Thomas Jefferson is reported to have visited Clos de la Commaraine and acquired the wines in the late 18th Century. Thomas Jefferson later became the third President of USA and was known for his wine passion.
