One of my favorite wines from Faiveley is its top Mercurey: La Framboisière, a wine that always seems to enjoy very well.
The assignment: I decided to dive into five affordable wines from the Faiveley portfolio in five articles, and I asked Eve Faiveley to select for me a few lighter summer wines.
One of the appellations missing when I taste in the Nuits-Saint-Georges cellar are the domaine’s Mercurey cuvees.
Summer Wine 4: Mercurey La Framboisière 2018
The fourth summer wine, Mercurey La Framboisière 2018, comes from the core of Faiveley’s holdings in the Cote Chalonnaise.
It is fresh, vivid, and forward with a nose of mulberries, cherries, boysenberries, and a strong hint of raspberries.
With its fine balance and delightful, vivid energy and nerve, this is really fresh for a 2018, and the oak is very well integrated. As the wine’s temperature rises the balance is maintained. This is a really good 2018.
Food-wise, this would be great with salads or light chicken dishes. It would work even with a rich sauce – Poulet de Bresse with a bit of truffle would go just fine.
Drinkable now, but will keep.
