More Puligny refinement: It is not the biggest and not the greatest, but perhaps it is the most refined, delicate, and hedonistic of the Puligny 1ers crus – the filigreed and poetic Les Pucelles.
Looking at plots in Pucelles, we find Domaine Morey-Coffinet with a parcel just next to Domaine Chartron’s clos.
Let’s walk to the upper, northern, part of Pucelles – to plot no. 138.
The history of Les Pucelles
While today we consider Pucelles a fabulous place for producing white Burgundies, it was actually producing reds 100 years ago when Rodier wrote his famous book.
The list of owners producing red Puligny Pucelles included Domaine Leflaive as well as Domaine Chartron. Rodier made no mention of Coffinet, Morey, or any other relatives of Thibault Morey.
