The Pontet Canet 2009 is one of 19 wines from this vintage with a perfect solicitor score. I’m therefore quite surprised to taste a balanced and quite refined wine. On the nose loads of juicy dark fruits and berries, creme de cassis, blackberries and liquorice. On the palate layers of ripe fruit, fine tannins and a very good acidity for the vintage. This is a BIG wine, but still it’s a quite refined and fresh claret – a tribute to Alfred Tesseron’s organic work at the domaine. On the slightly negative side, while this is a perfectly made wine, the terroir of Pontet Canet does not offer the ultimate complexity found in the top estates. Still a truely Outstanding effort.
