There’s now approximately one week to the start of harvest, and Domaine P.-O. Garcia in Nuits-Saint-Georges is still adjusting his harvest plan while following the grapes’ maturation closely. Yesterday we were in the vineyards north of Nuits-Saint-Georges to collect samples for a lab test of key parameters.
Day 0
September 8
Sampling
We went through the vineyards on the northern side of the village: Aux Saints Juliens, Aux Herbues, Aux Bousselots, and Aux Argillas. In each vineyard approximately 100 grapes were collected, randomly picked all around the vineyard on both sides of the vines, at both ends of the vineyard, and in different rows.
The samples are delivered to the laboratory, which will test it for values including sugars, acidity, pH, etc.
These values are the used as a data point for harvest planning and timing. Some vineyards are further ahead in their development than others.
Domaine P.O. Garcia is the estate of Pierre-Olivier Garcia who has taken over the Moron-Garcia estate.
