A new estate on the Winehog map – Jean Baptiste Boudier
Jean-Baptiste Boudier’s made his first vintage in 2015, when he started with a modest 3 hectares of the family vineyards. One hectare of Pernand Vergelesses Blanc, a hectare of Pernand Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Les Fichots, and a hectare of Bourgogne Rouge, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand Vergelesses Blanc 1er Cru Sous Frétille.
The vineyards came from his family’s domaine. Jean-Baptiste was working alongside his father and in 2014 they decided that they had different visions around the vinification process and the logical conclusion was to create a new domaine for Jean-Baptiste.
The wines give a harmonious and coherent impression, I do feel that the regular Savigny is the weakest card here, but the rest are showing very well with good energy and offering good pleasure. They are enjoyable – not a standard cuvée from old school wine growers from the hill.
Domaine Jean Baptiste Boudier Savigny-Les-Beaune 2022
A good solid Savigny with nice depth and length, although it seems a bit lean on the midpalate fruit. A lot of 2022s suffer when the yield gets a bit too high … and they then seem to lack the hedonistic sparkle. This is mainly a question about the village wines … as they don’t have the same mineral backbone as the 1ers.
(Drink from 2028) – Very Good -88p
Domaine Jean Baptiste Boudier Savinny-les-Beaune Les Peuillets 2022
40% whole cluster and 20% new oak give a fine balance and energy. Not jumping from the glass but a very nice Savigny. Good liveliness
(Drink from 2030) – Very Good (89p) –
Domaine Jean Baptiste Boudier Pernand-Vergelesses Les Fichots 2022
The Pernand Les Fichot comes from a plot with red clay. Given the soil, the wine shows a pronounced expression of clay and iron. It’s 100% destemmed. For rich dishes or slightly spicy pasta.
(Drink from 2033) – Very Good (89-90p) –
Domaine Jean Baptiste Boudier Aloxe-Corton Les Combes 2022
Fine clay soil … delicate fruit … quite silky and with a lovely deep and refined fruit…lovely energy and livelyness… This is a truly lovely wine.
(Drink from 2030) – Very Good (90p) –
