Lovely slightly cool morning in NSG – Nuits-Saint-Georges – harvest in a bit more than two Months
Harvest prospects look very good with little or no serious problems so far … but things always happen or turn up … and at the moment a very early harvest … and therefore also a hot harvest is on the horizon.

Early harvest is also … normally … equivalent to a hot harvest, that will require a quick and swift harvest. This requires more harvest personnel… bigger teams and more resources in the cellar.
Sadly, not all vignerons have manned up … and the result is more and more wines are harvested outside the optimal or even good phenolic ripeness. This is pathetic given the prices they claim for even mediocre wines.

Some wines are harvested too early – early start is a quick fix to extend the harvest capacity… but more and more are harvested too late … some way too late … giving you overripe and disgustingly flat whites and jammy reds.
The hot weather can be a blessing … but most vignerons can’t handle a very hot and early vintage.
Correct phenolic ripeness is a must for me, and I will strike down with great vengeance and anger upon the overripe soup that is being produced. Meaning the worst will be hammered in the comments and ratings!
Will they ever learn!
