Sometimes, the wine world throws you a curveball which set the wines and Burgundy in a slightly different light.
The visit was Alvina Pernot – the granddaughter of Paul Pernot in Puligny-Montrachet, a relatively new estate, it was started in 2018 – still building experience and taking over more and more vineyards from the family.
Alvina Pernot is running the estate with her husband, Philippe Abadie, in a new facility in downtown Puligny.

Alvina Pernot now has a fine portfolio of vineyards supplemented with some wines from friends in Puligny-Meursault and Corton.
Buying wines and building an estate
Alvina Pernot has built a nice lineup of wines … estate wines and some bought juice supplementing here and there.
At the top end, a Corton-Charlemagne has been added, along with a Chevalier-Montrachet, bought from friends in Puligny-Montrachet. The Bâtard Montrachet is from the family vineyards, while the Puligny-Montrachet Les Caillerets is from bought juice. Some Meursaults have also been acquired in some vintages, giving some volume to the lineup.

Alvina Pernot Bougogne Côte d’Or 2024
The Bourgogne Côte d’Or is a typical 2024 … very fresh and quite deep and intense fruit. Comes from the terroir Les Femelottes located north of the village, but on the right side of the road. Quite short elevage (20% new oak).

Alvina Pernot Puligny-Montrachet La Rue aux Vaches 2024
The La Rue aux Vaches is a lively, intense wine. Elevage on Rousseau and Stockäinger … good depth and lovely classic Puligny minerality. Quite complex with a lovely impression of the lees.

Alvina Pernot Puligny-Montrachet Clos des Noyers Brets 2024
From the area on the upside of Puligny, just below Enseignières. A step up – it’s richer and more lively … vines are 35 years old. Has a lovely intensity and Puligny backbone … a bit like Enseignières with the rather refined mineral note. Lovely juice.
