Clos des Lambray is expanding with several very interesting vineyards to supplement the core – the delicate Clos des Lambrays itself.
The expansion happened while Jacques Devauges had taken the rein at this fine and historic estate.
The expansion of Clos des Lambrays
Clos des Lambrays have recently bought areas in a range of vineyards – in total around 4 ha. I am still working on this part … update will come asap.
- Nuits-Saint-Georges La Richemone – 0.89 ha
- Nuits-Saint-Georges Le Murgers – 0,17 ha
- Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Cras – 0,09 ha
- Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts – 0.45 ha
- Morey-Saint-Denis village – 1,7 ha
- Morey-Saint-Denis Les Loups – 0.63 ha
Clos des Lambrays had in total 9.32 ha when LVMH took over – with Clos dee Lambrays and two whites bought from Domaine Chartron in the 1990s.
- Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatière – 0.30 ha
- Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Cailleret – 0.36 ha
- Clos des Lambrays – 8.66 ha
Furthermore, LVMH has acquired 0.50 ha of Ruchottes-Chambertin, which will be adjoined later.
LVMH has also bought 0.50 ha of Romanée-Saint and some Corton-Charlemagne and Corton Bressandes from Domaine Remi Poisot – in total 1.30 ha. If these are being added to Clos des Lambrays remains to be seen.
In total, the LVMH holdings is going to cover more than 15 ha when this expansion is done.
The recent expansion has really transformed Lambrays into a very exciting visit with the new top 1er crus like Richemonde and Beaumonts.
So a nice collection of wines at the current Clos des Lambrays.
Tasting of the 2022s
We had the opportunity to taste the 2022s in early November 2024 … all the wines were bottled and ready to taste … what a treat. The hedonistic qualities are tremendous for the top wines … wow… they are that good. Jacques Devauges is a true talent and master.
Clos des Lambrays Morey-Saint-Denis village 2022
Starting out with the Morey village coming from the top of the slope. Two plots Rue Vergy and Les Larrets just above clos des Lambrays. Intense yet lightfooted – Very open and delicate. I love the saline note. Very refined for a Morey village.
(Drink From 2033) – Very Good (89p) –
Clos des Lambrays Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Baulets 2022
Fantastic life, intense deep fruit. Lovely minerality with a nice vegetal note. Lovely floral notes … roses. Deep note from the brown soil. What a delight has a lovely airyness and a lightfooted attack.
(Drink From 2033) – Fine (91p) –
Clos des Lambrays Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Sorbé 2022
Red soil … iron notes .. intense fruit … a bit more closed. Again a beautiful saline note … very mineral and with a lovely crunchy stony note. It a quite an intense and masculine wine … it is built up towards the big guns.
(Drink From 2035) – Fine (91p) –
