The Le Chambertin 1997 from Rousseau is a big and quite dense wine for the vintage. In the bouquet mainly layers of dark berry fruit … so far quite secondary .. with a few hints of sous-bois and a deep earthy minerality. On the palate weighty and quite powerful with a dense mindpalate fruit and a long and intense finish. A impressive effort for the vintage, but lacking a bit of focus and airyness tasted with some of the big 1996s. Will nevertheless provide excellent drinking over the next 10 years.
