Sometimes I am lucky to join short visits to interesting producers – appetisers for a future visit, one could call it.
Such visit was the small tasting at Domaine Patrick Javillier in the very core of Meursault. At this visit, Agent Karine (my good friend) introduced me briefly to Marion Javillier, a very cheerful and charming girl – who generously offered a small tasting of the 2024 vintage.

We tasted a few 2024s, including the two exciting mixed cuvees – the 2024 Domaine Patrick Javillier Meursault Cuvée Les Clousots, and the Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger …. both high quality … but different.
The Javillier estate is interesting, but it is not graced with numerous Meursault 1er crus – it only has Meursault Charmes – and therefore the good people at the estate have created some blended cuvees that will offer different views of Meursault.
Merusault Les Clousots 2024
Meursault Les Clousots comes from the two Climats: Meursault Les Clous at the top of the slopes and Meursault Les Crotots located just below the premier cru Porusots.
Les Clous is situated on the top part of the classic Meursault slopes, exposed to the east and with a more clay-dominated soil. Les Crotots are also facing eastwards but with a clay-limestone soil and located below Meursault premier cru Les Porusots.
It gives a quite expressive and rich Meursault even in a structured vintage like 2024 … classic Meursault with the clay soil of the Les Clous being quite prominent. This is a cuvees that works well with the character of 2024.

Meursault Cuvée “Tête de Murger” 2024
This Meursault comes from two Meursault terroirs, Les Casse-Têtes, situated in the upper core of Meursault (just south of Tesson), facing east and with little soil. One of the sometimes forgotten gems of Meursault. And then we have Meursault Les Murgers de Monthelie on the Volnay slopes oriented to the west with a topsoil of 80cm of clay on a layer of volcanic rock – a rather unknown terroir for me at least.
