Domaine Soyer – out in the sun

Domaine Soyer is just starting … or might I say restarting the estate with a new generation.

Julie Soyer is the daughter of Laurent Soyer, who until 2023 was producing the wines at Domaine Soyer … but now has left the wine production to his daughter Julie. The vineyards are the same, but the quality of the wines is in a whole other league.

There are many domains like this in Burgundy … some unknown to the international market, and some completely unknown, mainly selling grapes to the big negociants. When a new generation takes over on these domains, it’s quite often that this will lead to a new direction with the production and sale of wines directly from the Domaine.

Domaine Soyer is a small estate – a 3,5 ha currently located in the core of Nuits-Saint-Georges.

The estate

Domaine Soyer is a small estate with some lovely vineyards near Nuits-Saint-Georges. These are, in my view, some of the most attractive village terroirs in NSG … and with a new, more tender vigneron there is definitely a fine potential.

2024 was the first vintage for Julie, and this was not an easy task with 90% of the vintage lost to mildew.

But 2025 is quite the opposite, with gorgeous fruit and a lovely balance … a beautiful canvas for a new artist,

So in 2025, Julia produced the full program – five wines – including the Bourgogne Hautes Côte de Nuits,

The style of the estate is elegant and rather classic, but with a modern light expression. The oak is a bit medium toast and leaves a nice harmonious expression. The oak is there when you taste the wines just after racking. I like it; they have their own style without the wines being or feeling oaky. Perfect level of oak.

The first wine is the lovely Bourgogne 2025 – Hautes Côtes de Nuits coming from the area of les Dames Hugettes, on the way to. This is a tremendous wine … elegant with a lovely fruit for this level. Love the slightly perfumed fruity nose … raspberries with a hint of sweet cherries.

The next wine is Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Tuyaux 2025. This is an elegant and slightly discreet wine … a classic 2025 … fruity and elegant oak well integrated – ripeness level very good. The four NSGs are close – and this one is perhaps lacking the last edge to battle with St. Jacques, Julien and Herbues.
