The Clos de la Roche 1997 from Domaine Humbert Lignier became the last wine of 2017 and the first of 2018. Made by the late Romain Lignier – he is still missed and remembered – it’s a beautiful matured Burgundy. I would not say it’s fully mature – but it’s beautifully balanced with a lovely marturing red fruit and a delicate sous-bois. On the palate fresh and vibrant red fruit – lovely depth and length … beautiful energy and tension. It’s not matching the – still quite young 1996 – for greatness – but the is certainly a delightfully balanced effort. A very fine goodbye to 2017 and a good start to 2018.
(Drink From Now) – Very Fine (93p) – Tasted 01/01/2018.
