I do adore the 1996 vintage for white Burgundies – when they are not premoxed. This was the reason why I originally bought three bottles of Batard-Montrachet 1996 from Louis Jadot – around 15 years back or more. Sadly not the bedst investment – one heavily premoxed, one somewhat premoxed and lastly this somewhat disappointing wine. This bottle was 100% fresh – no premox and as developed as I would have expected. Bouquet quite intense white and yellow fruits – hints of hazelnuts and quite a powerful impression of minerality – however lacking some freshness from the citrus notes that often are associated with this vintage. On the palate intense – robust and rather rustic – not much focus from the fine 1996 acidity – actually not very typical for the vintage. After more time in the glass – more complexity from the maturing fruit. Not as refined or defined as I had hoped for – after tasting the wine in it’s youth. Rarther disappointing – or expectations were too high?

- The odd and fabulous Jadot Musigny 1977!I once tasted a magnificent negociant Musigny from a very, very unlikely vintage. The wine was Louis Jadot’s Musigny 1977. Jadot generally produces a fine Musigny, but perhaps not at the very top of the Musigny range. And ’77 was an appallingly poor vintage. I tasted the wine in the early or mid 1990s. The ...

- Vineyard Insight: Chambolle-Musigny Les AmoureusesChambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is the delight of Burgundy … filigree, sensual, cool and refined. By heart it’s a 1er cru – and while many argue that it ...
- Terroir Insight: Maison Louis Jadot, MusignyThe Musigny from Louis Jadot is somehow a bit overlooked, but nevertheless produced on a plot next to one of the most hyped Musigny’s – the rare and very expensive Musigny from Domaine Georges Roumier.
