Grumpy old Winehog!
As I get older, some grapes seem to lose their appeal, with my feelings ranging from simple indifference to a full-blown; I hate the taste!
I respect all people who make wine from the thousands of different grape varieties – some great, others not so much.
But I do not have to like them all – and I certainly do not have to drink them.
One of these grapes is Cabernet Franc. I have tried to like it … and I mean really tried, as I find it sort of crude and rude not to appreciate a wine like Clos Rougeard.
Last week I tasted two examples of this fine wine: Clos Rougeard Les Poyeux and the even rarer Clos Rougeard Le Bourg.
But I have to be honest: The slightly reductive green bell pepper note of pure Cabernet Franc put me somewhat off – sadly.
Those wines are sort off – wasted on me – and I certainly don’t understand their greatness.
So I am sorry – I said it out loud – as I am trying to appear embarrassed.
See you!
