The vineyards in Burgundy are numerous, and some are not even included in detailed maps over Burgundy. One of these vineyards is Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Les Demoiselles.
I tried to find the location on my trusted standard map – the Atlas Vins app for iPad – made by the Sylvain Pitiot and Pierre Poupon – but no luck on these otherwise outstanding maps.
I then did some more research, and found a quite interesting story about the Les Demoiselles, Puligny Les Caillerets and Chevalier Montrachet.
Puligny Les Demoiselles – a part of Les Caillerets
The 1er cru vineyard Puligny-Montrachet is according to the official records (cadastre) a part of the vineyard Puligny-Montrachet Le Caillerets. But the three southern plots of Les Caillerets – just north of Le Montrachet have their own appellation – Puligny-Montrachet Les Demoiselles – see map below.
The vineyard Le Cailleret was originally producing red wines and was mentioned as a red appellation by Rodier in 1920. According to Rodier the area of Le Caillerets was 5 ha 41 ares and 50 cent in 1920 and among the owners were Latour, Chartron and Colin. The area of Chevalier-Montrachet was 6 ha 24 ares and 30 cents in 1920 according to Rodier 1.
