There is no reason to beat around the mildew-infested bushes … 2024 is not a great year for the reds, while I have more hope for the whites.

The 2024 reds are in the same league as 2021 … however, 2021 has more substance, and 2024 requires a lot of work to get some flavours on the rather naked skeleton.
Some wines have a good intensity on the mid-palette, others are struggling more and become watery… some even very watery. There are limits on how far you can stretch the limited fruit in the 2024s! So choose carefully – and go for a vin d´émotion.
Some have succeeded and made some pretty wines … even charming wines, that will give a lot of pleasure in the short to medium term.
To rate these point-wise is pointless (if ever) … perhaps the real point difference between a 2024 and a 2025 village could easily be 5 points … and leaving a regular village Chambolle at 85 points – let’s just say that this will look pretty bad with a price of 200 EUR in a normal restaurant.
This is why Vin d`émotion scores are the correct take on this vintage, as we have a chance to express the love and admiration for smaller but delicious wines. I love light pinots even without great complexity … but with charm and delicacy in spades. Big is not great … sometimes perhaps – but rarely – if you like Burgundy and refinement.
BUT … To sell a Vosne or a Chambolle village on 85 points will be a stretch, I fear!
I will, as usual, focus on the Vin d’emotion … i.e. the wines with charm and emotional values … and tone down on the not-so-lucky wines that really suffer this vintage.
How much we can tone these down is a question between me and you, the readers. But in reality, no one has an interest in trying to sell some af these rather watery wines.
In some cases, it would be suitable to see some declassified wines … even greed has a limit … one would think!
This is a vintage where you need to taste and look carefully … before you invest huge sums in red 2024s from second-rate producers.

- A true vin d’émotion – a Burgundy of passion
- A truly hedonistic wine – lively and enjoyable
- A vivacious wine for pure indulgance
- A potential vin d´émotion - frais et léger
