Vosne-Romanée Les Petits-Monts is a delightful vineyard, and one of the gems of Vosne-Romanée and is getting more and more fame and attraction. One plot is however both relatively unknown but also very well located indeed.
I am of cause talking about the plot owned by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ..
Vosne-Romanée Les Petits-Monts
Petits-Monts is a medium size 1er cru – in total 3.67 ha – located above Richebourg – going from the top of the grand crus to the top of the hill – see map below.
While Domaine de la Romanée-Conti before owned quite a lot of vineyards in the area, these were reduced somewhat when the late Henri-Frédéric Roch (co-owner of DRC and member of the Leroy and Roch family), acquired large plots in Les Suchots and amongst others the vineyard La Goilotte located in the centre of Vosne-Romanée in 1988.
When Domaine de la Romanée-Conti acquired the Romanée Saint-Vivant vineyard, some vineyards were sold to finance the deal, and Henri-Frédéric Roch bought some to his new established estate in Premeaux – Domaine Prieure Roch in Premeaux.
The grapes from the DRC 1er cru plots
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti do however have a few 1er cru vineyards left, and one of them is a relatively large and significant plot on Les Petits-Monts.
Of other plots DRC own plots on Les Gaudichots and also a plot on Au dessus des Malconsorts, the small 1er cru located above Aux Malconsort and also a small plot of Aux Reignots (rented to Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair).
There are many speculation about the grapes produced from these plots, and while some say the are sold, and that other producers make great wines based on grapes or even juice from Domanine de la Romanée-Conti – not much solid evidence is found on the big web!.
