To simplify your search for emotional wines, I have decided to compile a list of the top emotional producers in each appellation.
Vin d’émotion is quite stable .. I do however adjust from year to year … so … here is the first update in 2025 – Gevrey Chambertin.
Comments to the update
First and foremost I upgraded Domaine Armand Rousseau. About time some will say, and correct – the lesser wines are now also showing high-class.
Domaine Jean-Luc Burguet has been included in the list … and could climb even higher. I really enjoyed these wines in 2023. Vin d`émotion … with a lovely potential.
Hersztyn-Mazzini is leaving the list and will not be visited this often, The sorting in the lower cuvees seems to be an issue sometimes… and this is crucial in the difficult years! The name is also somewhat of a marketing issue – not easy to get the spelling in place to say the least.
The lists
- Vins d’Emotion from Gevrey-Chambertin
- Vins d’Emotion from Chassagne-Montrachet and St. Aubin
- Vins d’Emotion from Puligny-Montrachet
- Vins d’Emotion from Meursault
- Vins d’Emotion from Volnay and Pommard
- Vins d’Emotion from the Côte de Nuits – Off Piste
- Vins d’Emotion from Nuits-Saint-Georges – (New added)
- Vins d’Emotion from Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux (update)
- Vins d’Emotion from Chambolle-Musigny and Vougeot
- Vins d’Emotion from Morey-Saint-Denis
The list contains producers that regularly score an emotional rating, and they are ranked in three levels. I hope this proves useful; here we go!
– Producers from whom most wines qualify for a high emotional rating
Domaine Denis Bachelet
Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand
Domaine Fourrier
Domaine Dennis Mortet
Domaine Armand Rousseau
– Producers from whom several wines get a high emotional rating
Domaine Perrot-Minot
Domaine Trapet
Domaine Pierre Duroché
– Producers whose wines regularly get a high emotional rating
Domaine Marc Roy
Domaine Jean-Luc Burguet
– New names on the way to my heart
For what it’s worth
I should note that there are some genuine surprises, as several famous or well-known producers are either not mentioned or mentioned further down the ranks.
Vins d’émotion are, however, usually quite expressive wines, hedonistic and full of energy and joy. These traits sometimes conflict with the style of certain producers whose wines require many years to unfold.
Missing: Please note
I have not tasted the Dugat-Py or Domaine Claude Dugat wines regularly in recent years, hence I do not know how the wines are performing now.

Dear WINEHOG,
I noticed that you do not mention BRUNO CLAIR anywhere who has first class vineyards in Gevrey (Clos-de- Bère, Clos-st-Jacques, Cazetiers etc…) , Morey (BONNES MARES) , Chambolle (CHARMES, VEROILLES) and even Vosne (Reignots) . He even sells CORTON CHARLEMAGNE. I know opinons are divided but most critics think rather favorably of him….What about WINEHOG?
Greetings from JOHAN
