Visit at Domaine Bruno Clavelier – tasting of the 2017s

Bruno Clavelier is a unique producer with both his own style and his own ways … his focus on quality and detail is second to none, and many producers of Vosne-Romanée really admire the dedication shown at this estate.

The wines of Bruno Clavelier are pure, and refined with quite some character. The Clavelier wines are not over-engineered with oak or extraction, they are terroir driven wines made with tremendous attention to detail. The expression of the terroir is essential for Bruno Clavelier – and he enthusiastically explain about different terroirs in Vosne-Romanee.

Bruno Clavelier is a very friendly but also extremely dedicated man – his perfectionistic approach to wine making and his understanding of the terroirs is impressive.

The soil and the terroirs of Vosne Romanee

In the Clavelier tasting room you will find samples of the different types of soil found in the Cote de Nuits, and Bruno love to explain the composition of the soil in the different terroirs – from Les Hautes de Beaux-Monts on the top of the hill to Les Haut Maizieres below Les Suchot.

He use pen and board to visualise (see photo below from a previous visit) and explain with great enthusiasm about the different layers in the soil and the composition of each layer.

The dedication and attention to detail is impressive – a very inspiring lesson for all who love the Vosne terroirs.

Friday morning in Vosne-Romanée and a small group of connoisseurs are gathered at Domaine Bruno Clavelier .. all ready to taste the latest vintage from cask – the 2017s.

The 2018s are brewing in the cellar .. but it’s too early to taste these … aside form a small sip on the way out. The 2018 are definitely something quite different …
