Domaine Bertrand Machard de Gramont – also known as Domaine Axelle Machard de Gramont – is one of my fixed annual tastings. I have said it many times: Axelle’s wines are truly honest.
Sometimes, the wines talk, and I find that the 2023s are amongst the most interesting and best wines I have tasted from Axelle so far.

Domaine Bertrand Machard de Gramont’s 2023s
Although 2023 is a hot year, the ’23s are vivid and energetic, they are quite fruity and lively.
The 2023 is perhaps more classical and freshness-driven than the 2022s. A lovely and sort of remarkable balance in a vintage as hot as the 2023s. The wines sometimes take mysterious ways … and the fresh 2023s are certainly worth following.
Let’s taste it!
Domaine Bertrand Machard de Gramont Bourgogne Rouge Les Grands Chaillots 2023
The Bourgogne Rouge is made from a plot in Nuits-Saint-Georges below the road and Chaillots. Please note: This is not a village, but rather a regional wine. In the 2023 vintage, this is really singing – good intensity for this wine. Very nice freshness and a lovely acidity … delicate fruit for this level. Lovely!
(Drink from 2025) – Very Good (87p) –
Domaine Bertrand Machard de Gramont Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Terrasses de Vallerots 2023
A signature wine for this estate, this comes from the terraces that can be seen from the RD974 between NSG and Premeaux-Prissey (see photo below). The 2023 Terrasses is also showing greatly. Quite rich with delightful liveliness, offering a beautiful display of this remarkable terroir.

Domaine Bertrand Machard de Gramont Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Vallerots 2023
Les Vallerots is a notch up from Les Terrasses, concentration-wise, but does not offer quite the same vin d`emotion. A floral and intense wine – but this time, a bit more on the hot side than Les Terrasses. Will need some time.
(Drink from 2030) – Very Good – (87-88p) –
