The Mugnier 2024s are, as expected, a very small vintage, with the wines reflecting the coolish climatic conditions that were present for most of the growing season.
Mugnier has made the wines according to potential and possibility, hence, he has not tried to stretch the wines via heavy extraction or other vinification tricks. Mugnier’s 2024s are very honest wines, and in the end, this is often the best approach in a vintage like this. The 2024s are not big blockbusters; they are refined and cool wines that play on this elegance.
It’s a vintage that is in line with 2021. At other estates, I prefer the 2024s, but at Mugnier, I think the 2021s are preferable. But we will see.
The Mugnier ’24s are, as expected, emotional wines … the Mugnier wines always are. They are light-footed and balanced. Has good energy, but one feels the effect of humid and cool climatic conditions. Refined, relatively light-footed wines for medium-term drinking.
The 2024 vintage was a strange year
The Mugnier 2024s are transparent, and while it’s early, they seem to offer all the qualities that I look for – on a smaller scale that is. They are quite enjoyable with a refined expression of their terroirs, and they possess a delicate complexity. That is the essence of Mugnier winemaking.
That said, they are much lighter compared to 2022 and 2019 … so, 2024 is not a vintage of the century, and yes, the expression of the emotional qualities is not the same as the previously mentioned 2019 and 2022 vintages … but less will do.
The 2024s was tasted on January 15th 2026
The Chambolle-Musigny Village 2024 is light-footed and transparent. Like many 2024s, the midpalate is cool and slightly on the darker side, an indication of the limited ripeness. A fine Chambolle mineral note. Fruit is vivid but a bit on the dark side.
