Domaine Leroy is one of the legendary producers in Burgundy – a Domaine formed and managed by the equally legendary Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy.
The Domaine was shaped in 1988 when Mme Leroy acquired the old Charles Noëllat estate in Vosne-Romanée, and along whith this got sizable plots of both Richebourg and Romanée Saint-Vivant.
Further vineyards were acquired and today Domaine Leroy accounts for 21.9966 ha of vineyard – and furthermore Mme Lalou Bize-Leroy own Domaine d’Auvenay.
The Domaine Leroy holdings in Richebourg
Domaine Leroy is the second largest owner of Richebourg after Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – not counting the Gros family holdings as one.
The Domaine Leroy holdings include three plots of Richebourg in the very center of the vineyard – two plots 0.5522 ha (cadastre no 57) and 0.0922 ha (cadastre no 69) located just above the Leroy plot in Romanée Saint-Vivant, and a second smaller plot 0.1321 ha (cadastre no 61) located a bit further south just below Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts – in total 0.7765 ha – see map below.
All plots are in the Les Richebourgs section in the vineyard allthough the largest section is on the border to Les Verroilles ou Richebourgs.
The ownership history of the Leroy plots in Richebourg
The Leroy plots in Richebourg were acquired from the Noëllat family when Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy acquired the old Charles Noëllat domaine in 1988. She bought the vineyards and the estate buildings in Rue de la Fontaine.
