Le Grand Verdus is a Bordeaux Superiuere priced at around 10 USD (60 to 70 Danish Kroner). It’s not a big and complex wine, but an honest budget Bordeaux. I really like it’s classical Bordeaux tannins, no overripe tannins here. The flavors and aromas are typical for the area – rare to find at this price level. In the bouquet dark fruits with cassis as the dominant element, some oak notes with a slight hint of nutmeg and licorice. On the palate good grip and focus from the quite ripe tannins. Fine merlot and cabernet fruit flavors, medium body and a ok length. Drinkable now but will improve with some years in the cellar. If you can find the 2005 vintage … then it’s even better value, as it has better depth, concentration and ripeness.
