The poetically named «Viola Odorata» comes from Corgoloin and the Côte de Nuits Villages lieux-dits «En Vireville» (two different parcels) and «En Fontenelle.» This is made from very old vines – 70-85 years. The Naudin-Ferrand «Viola Odorata» 2016 is just starting to unfold a bit, but is already showing fine promise and complexity. It has plenty of organic fruit and the beginning of notes of sous-bois, but it is still relatively primary. On the palate, rich and almost silky, showing its beautiful organic fruit. Hedonistic but not densely massive, it does stand very well beside a Corton 2010 from Clavelier. I’m not saying it’s better or even on a par. But absolutely delicious it certainly is, and a vin d’emotion!
