Connoisseurs and collectors have for decades sought out and been fascinated by wines that give hedonistic joy and pleasure. They seek that overwhelming urge to pour another glass (or find another bottle) that is too intense to ignore.
This has led to a surge in demand for these wines, partly or even mostly on a subconscious level. But open discussion of these qualities in wine is getting more and more prominent.
The Winehog will help
To facilitate the detection of emotional wines, I propose to make a list of producers who regularly turn out emotional wines – some who make only a few, and others from whom almost all the wines have a strong emotional character.
I cannot guarantee that you will love all the wines. But this will at least give you a chance to explore and learn what a vin d’emotion is – and what it is not.
Some producers are well known and expensive, while others are relatively unknown and priced where even more modest collectors can chip in for a bottle or two.
As always: I do not have all the answers or a monopoly on identifying emotional wines. These lists will be developed as I taste and explore, discovering emotional producers and wines. Life is a journey and I am here to explore and learn. I want to take you with me on this journey through Burgundy.
My lists of emotional producers will be built appellation by appellation, giving you a chance to be inspired in a logical manner.
But nothing is easy. This is after all about passion and Burgundy – or rather the glowing passion for Burgundian wines.
I will starting out with producers from Gevrey-Chambertin and will over the next months move on, tackling first the Cote de Nuits and then the Cote de Beaune.
- Vins d’Emotion from Chassagne-Montrachet and St. Aubin
- Vins d’Emotion from Puligny-Montrachet
- Vins d’Emotion from Meursault
- Vins d’Emotion from Volnay and Pommard
- Vins d’Emotion from the Côte de Nuits – Off Piste
- Vins d’Emotion from Nuits-Saint-Georges – (New added)
- Vins d’Emotion from Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux (update)
- Vins d’Emotion from Chambolle-Musigny and Vougeot
- Vins d’Emotion from Morey-Saint-Denis
- Vins d’Emotion from Gevrey-Chambertin

Hello Steen,
One question in my mind for a long time, and I think most of the wine lovers should have the same question, Will you put the wine price when you give the points to the wines, is the wine tasted similar when the points are similar?
EX : We need to pay for much more for the Bizot Vosne Romanée than the Moron-Garcia Nuits Saint Georges Les Charmois. We like both of the wines, but we need to pay complete different price for the wine. When the points is similar – does it mean that you have similar feeling for the wines?
From time to time, I saw you give very high rate for the Vins d’émotion but the points is not very high – could you tell us what’s the difference?
Cheers,
Reak

The emotional ratings were intruduced to be able to show another angle on quality- in my view a at lest equally important part of the wines quality – the emotional and hedonistic quallities.
Some wines can never merrit a high points rating as they come from lesser terroirs with less depth and complexity. These wines can however merrit a very high emotional rating hence giving the duality of the ratings.
an example is the Domaine Nicolas Faure Bourgogne Aux Argillieres 2021 with a rating
88-89p it will never be a 93p wine as it lacks the depth and complexity of a big terroir. It can however get the highest emotional rating … as it does give you a magnificent emotional kick.

Thanks for the questions Reak,
Price is a problematic parameter to enter into the evaluation of wines. The price of a wine will be affected by supply and demand and will often depend on the source – mainly if you are able to get the wine from the top part of the supply chain – ie. importer.
Regardless the price should not influence the ratings … and the wines with identical ratings are and should be comparable quality wise … despite one being a much more expensive wine.

Hello Steen,
Thanks for your reply.
It is good to know what you think and it will give us a better idea about the points and the emotional rating now. It is great to know the wine price is not part of the rating, so we could enjoy more great wines at reasonable budget.
