The news regarding Domaine Cécile Tremblay does not seem to stop. First, the expansion of Beaumonts, secondly the addition to Echezeaux, and now Cécile got the chance to explore Griotte Chambertin.

This opportunity arises as Domaine de Chézeaux was sold to Charles Van Canneyt (of Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat) in 2021.
This sale has been unfolding according to the very complex rules of Burgundy. This is indeed complex as there were no less than three métayage agreements linking other producers to the Domaine des Chézeaux vineyards.
The sale of a complex estate like Domaine des Chézeaux certainly creates a lot of issues, but now (finally) the discussions have ended as the distribution of vineyards is finalised.
Domaine des Chezeaux was sold fully as an estate to Charles Van Canneyt and his wife Anne-Sophie and this does make the rules more simple … the buyer gets the vineyards when the metayage agreements expire … or even before.
This means that Charles Van Canneyt gets most of the vineyards, Chambertin, Clos Saint-Denis, Griotte-Chambertin (most of it), Chambolle Les Charmes, Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers and Gevrey-Chambertin village.
The Griotte-Chambertin
The Griotte-Chambertin part was a bit special, and two parties got a part of the Domaine des Chezeaux. One is Laurent Ponsot … the other is a group of investors who now own the southern part of the Domaine des Chezeaux plot – just north of the Domaine Dugat plot.
The investors have chosen Cécile Tremblay as the maker of this new Griotte – a very exciting vineyard for Cecile to make … and a further expansion of this fine Domaine.
Personally I have a soft spot for Griotte and Céciles wines, and I am sure this terroir is a perfect match for the Cécile Tremblay style …. I can’t wait!… the first vintage will be 2024.
The Tremblay plot is according to my info 0.2 ha … more about this later
